Thierrine is a velvet midi with a high neck, long sleeves and ruching through the body. It is the most covered-up dress in the occasion range and, counterintuitively, one of the most flattering, because ruched velvet skims where a smooth fabric would cling and the high neck lengthens the whole line.
Black only, which for velvet is correct. Black velvet handles bad venue lighting better than any other formal fabric, photographs richly rather than flatly, and reads expensive regardless of what it cost. The long sleeves mean no cover-up needed, which is the practical argument for it over a strappy dress in winter.
Christmas parties, winter weddings, New Year and formal dinners.
